Editorial Policy

Our guides are written to be accurate, useful and respectful. Here is how we make them.

Who writes our content

Guides, answers and lessons are written and maintained by the Gray Hair Jobs Editorial Team. We don't publish fake bylines or invented experts. When a qualified professional reviews a page, we will name them and say what they reviewed.

Our standards

  • Answer first. Every guide starts with a short, direct answer, then gives specific steps.
  • Accuracy over volume. We only publish a page when it helps solve a real problem. We don't create thin pages to rank in search.
  • Primary sources. Facts about laws, benefits and programs are checked against official sources, such as the EEOC, the Social Security Administration, Medicare.gov, the Department of Labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Federal Trade Commission. Each page lists its sources.
  • No invented numbers. We never make up statistics, survey results, salaries, quotes or success stories. Figures that change every year (like Social Security earnings limits) are linked to the agency that publishes them, not copied.
  • Respectful language. We write for capable adults. We avoid stereotypes and phrases like "golden years" or "silver surfers", and we explain technical terms without talking down.
  • Honest about hard things. Age bias in hiring exists. We say so plainly and focus on what you can do about it.
  • Never advise dishonesty. On topics like graduation dates or long work histories, we explain the trade-offs and let you decide what's relevant.

Pages about employment law, Social Security, Medicare, taxes or retirement are general educational information, not advice for your situation. They carry a notice saying so and link to the official agency. We show when the facts were last checked.

Dates

Each page shows when it was published, when it was last updated, and (where relevant) when its facts were last checked against sources.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, please tell us. We correct errors promptly and note significant corrections on the page.

Advertising and sponsorship

Editorial content is never paid for. If we ever show sponsored job listings or sponsored employer profiles, they will be clearly labeled "Sponsored", and payment will never change what we say about an employer or how we label jobs.

Use of AI tools

Our core guides are written and reviewed by our team. Some newer pages (marked "How this page was made") are drafted with an AI writing assistant and published automatically, under strict rules:

  • The assistant may only use numbers from the research we give it: official government data (such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics) and counts from real listings on this site.
  • An automatic checker rejects any draft with a number it can't trace to that research, links to unlisted sites, a hard reading level, unsupported phrases like "studies show", or a claim that an employer is "age friendly".
  • A second AI pass checks the draft against its sources. Drafts that fail are never published: they are rewritten and checked again, and dropped if they still fail.
  • Pages are re-researched and refreshed regularly, and anyone can report a mistake.
